Dr. Irene Frederick — a champion of community healthcare and former academic director of the Healthcare Leadership program at University College — passed away on October 1, 2016 after a year-long battle with glioblastoma.

Prior to joining the University of Denver community, Dr. Frederick was an obstetrician/gynecologist, dedicated to the care of underserved populations. From her start at University College in 2011, Dr. Frederick’s enthusiasm, creativity, and passion for her students and program were all evident. Dr. Frederick retired from the University of Denver in August 2016.

Dr. Frederick worked to actively engage the Colorado healthcare community and the University of Denver campus while acting as a true ambassador for University College. As examples, she served on the University’s Institutional Review Board (IRB) committee, led efforts to establish a dual JD and MS in Healthcare Leadership degree in partnership with Sturm College of Law, and served as the faculty sponsor for the Daniels College of Business/University College student healthcare club.

A celebration of Dr. Frederick’s life will take place in the Green Farm Barn at the Denver Botanical Gardens Chatfield Farms in Littleton on Wednesday, October 19 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Memorial funds can be directed to Shoulder to Shoulder, a community-oriented organization dedicated to improving the health of residents in the Pittsburgh-San Jose area.
